Ricky Lee shares writing journey in 'Trip to Quiapo'

October 21, 2020 marks the beginning of Juliong Manunulat's journey, an aspiring writer played by Enchong Dee, with the help of award-winning Filipino writer Ricky Lee who shares his experiences and knowledge in storytelling in “Trip to Quiapo.”

Shot from different story-telling perspectives, the latest iWant TFC Original docu-series is a five-episode master-class in which Ricky shares his knowledge about how to build stories, where to draw inspiration for them, and meaningful lessons from his life and his 40 years in the industry. “Trip to Quiapo” is directed by Treb Monteras II, who co-wrote and directed the Cinemalaya 2017 Best Film “Respeto.”

Manunulat embodies all aspiring writers and storytellers who are struggling to write the ideas they have in mind, in relation to how Ricky began his writing journey.

“Nung baguhang writer ako, hindi ko alam kung paano magsisimula.
Marami akong pinagdaanan at pagkakamali bago ako natuto. At hanggang sa ngayon, natututo pa rin. At ngayon para sa inyong mga gustong matutong magkwento, susubukin kong ibahagi sa inyo ang mga karanasan at kaalaman ko matapos ang ilang dekadang pagsusulat. Pero ang actual na pagsusulat, baka hindi lahat matutunan dito dahil buhay ang gagawa nun,” shares Ricky.

Aside from the writing tips, the series is also accompanied by a
cinematic visual storytelling of his life, his early days as a writer and on
why he intends to share his knowledge; both his technical and creative side of storytelling with others.

“So I want to do it to other people also. Gusto kong gumawa ng mga pelikula na ‘pag naupo sila sa front row, mababago ko ang buhay nila kahit for two hours lang,” he adds.

Enchong, 30, also shared his respect for all writers, saying “The
writer will always be the captain of the ship and the soul of the journey.”

“Ang dami ‘kong naging realizations when I started to put myself in the role and situation of Hulyong Manunulat.” Say Dee.

“Sila yung nagsisimula eh, kaya ramdam ko yung hirap kahit sa pagsisimula pa lang magsulat, but if you allow yourself and the flow of ideas, eventually makakapag-sulat ka na. Kaya ganun na lang yung respeto ko sa kanila.” He ended.
