Jesuits launch assistance to prison inmates

The Philippine Jesuit Prison Service (PJPS) has launched the Simple Offering of Affection or S.O.A.P. campaign for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

PJPS said through the campaign, they hope to provide hygiene kits (bath and laundry soaps) to all PDLs at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and in the Correctional Institute for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City which approximately has 3,000 inmates.

In a statement, the organization said this to "help in the sanitation campaign against COVID-19."

"With this, we wish to invite you to join the S.O.A.P. campaign by donating either in cash or in kind," said PJPS.

The group said a P150 donation can provide one PDL two long bars of laundry soap and two bath soaps.

The launch of the  campaign coincided with this week's celebration of the 33rd Prison Awareness Week.

Aimed at inspiring Filipinos to pay attention to the situation of the prisoners across the country, the theme for this year’s celebration is “Restoring Hope and Healing during this Time of Pandemic through God’s Transforming Unconditional Love.”

The 33rd Prison Awareness Week will be celebrated from October 19 to 25, 2020.
