Plaridel by-pass road bridge nears completion

The construction of a two-lane bridge along Plaridel Bypass Road in Bustos, Bulacan is “about to be completed” as the Department of Public Works and Highways wrapped up works on October 20.

“We now wrapping up the construction of the 1.12-kilometer Angat Bridge along the Plaridel Bypass Road,” Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said Wednesday.

According to Undersecretary Emil Sadain, the final concrete pouring of deck slab at end closure between pier 17 and 18 was held on Tuesday, October 20, on track to complete the project by December 2020 doable.  

“The P1.09-billion project that also includes the construction Bridge No. 9 with a length of 40 meters and 1 kilometer road paving continues to move forward,” Villar added.

The bridge, which was built across Angat River in Bustos, Bulacan, is expected to address the projected increase of traffic at the Plaridel Bypass Road as an alternative route to the Maharlika Highway.

With about 15,000 vehicles diverted from the congestion of Maharlika Highway at the town proper of Plaridel, Pulilan, and Baliuag some sections of Plaridel Bypass Road during late afternoon up to night time have already shown traffic build up, Sadain said.

The bridge project is implemented under the Contract Package 3 costing P1.09 billion which covers the widening of two bridges with a total of 2.22-kilometer length and the widening of the entire 24.61-kilometer Plaridel Bypass Road that connects the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) to Daang Maharlika in San Rafael, Bulacan and vice versa.

With funding support from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the 24 kilometers Plaridel Bypass Road was opened for public use in May 2018, cutting travel time from Manila to San Rafael, Bulacan by 45 minutes.
