WATCH: Trailer for Chadwick Boseman's final film is out

Nearly two months after the Black Panther star’s death, Netflix unveils the trailer for his last performance in a film

Fans of actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away in August from colon cancer, is back for one final act in the August Wilson adaptation Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for the new film today. Check it out below:

Already, the film is a contender for several Oscar titles, including a posthumous one for Boseman who plays a young and ambitious trumpeter named Levee, side-by-side Viola Davis as Ma Rainey, in 1927 Chicago. Dubbed as the “Mother of the Blues,” Ma Rainey clashes with her white producer for control over her music at the end of her career.

Boseman worked on the film while also undergoing chemotherapy for his cancer.

Produced by Denzel Washington, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom isn’t the first time Davis worked with Boseman. She played his mother in Get on Up (2014), the James Brown biopic that had the Black Panther star expertly put on the blues as the “Godfather of Soul.”

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom will be shown in selected theaters in the US before it premieres on Netflix on Dec. 18.
