Siquijor posts 1st COVID-19 case in more than a month

CEBU CITY—The province of Siquijor in Central Visayas logged a new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case after going COVID-19-free for more than a month.

Siquijor’s fourth COVID-19 patient was a 25-year-old female, who came from Cebu City. She was one of the locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who arrived in the province last September.

“Klaruhon namo nga wala’y local transmission diri sa Probinsya (We want to make it clear that there is no a local transmission in the province),” read an advisory in the province’s Facebook page.

It was last August when the province recorded its first three cases of COVID-19. The province became COVID-19-free again when the three patients recovered last August 25.

The new patient was one of the 72 LSIs who arrived at Larena Port in Squijor last September 20.

The new patient underwent COVID-19 test at the temporary holding facility that the Siquijor provincial government put up in Cebu.

The Siquijor-bound LSIs all tested negative during the swab test. The patient underwent another test in Siquijor last September 28.

The patient was immediately pulled out from the province’s quarantine facility when test result came out last October 1 showing that she was COVID-19 positive.

The province asked for calm as it assured the public that all LSIs coming from high-risk areas were going through strict protocols and being isolated in various quarantine facilities.
