Isabel Sandoval is Best Actress at Pacific Meridian Int'l Film Festival

Filmmaker and actress Isabel Sandoval won the Best Actress award for her performance in the film “Lingua Franca” at this year’s Pacific Meridian International Film Festival.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) congratulated Sandoval in a Facebook post, Monday.

“Congratulations Isabel Sandoval! The filmmaker and actress won the ‘Best Actress’ award at the 18th Pacific Meridian International Film Festival for her performance in ‘Lingua Franca,’” the post read.

Sandoval also shared the news in a Twitter post on Saturday.

“I just won Best Actress for LINGUA FRANCA in Russia! Here I am on video thanking the jury at the 18th Pacific Meridian Int’l Film Festival,” she wrote.

“Lingua Franca,” also directed and written by Sandoval, won the Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at this year’s Bentonville Film Festival at Bentonville, Arkansas, US on Aug. 16.

It follows the story of an undocumented Filipino transwoman who works as a caregiver to a Russian elderly in New York. She became romantically involved with the Russian senior citizen’s grandson as she pursues a marriage to obtain a green card.

The 18^th Pacific International Film Festival was held in Russia last Oct. 16.
