COVID-19 claims 21st fatality in the PNP

A 45-year old policeman died of Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) over the weekend, the 21st personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who succumbed to virus infection since the start of the pandemic.

PNP spokesman Col. Ysmael Yu said the latest fatality was assigned to the Police Regional Office 4A (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon).

The confirmation of the death of the policeman from COVID came as 52 more cases were added to the list of the total infection in the PNP. The figure was at 6,727 as of Sunday night.

The Police Regional Office 8 (Eastern Visayas) and Police Regional Office 9 (Zamboanga region) reported 14 each new infection while the National Capital Region Police Office reported six.

Yu, however, said that the recovery rate in the PNP remains high with 6,108. There are only 598 active cases in the PNP.

Policemen have been on the frontline since the start of the community quarantine on March 17 this year. They are tasked to man border control checkpoints and community patrol to implement the quarantine rules.

Most of the coronavirus infections, according to the PNP, are those assigned to the frontlines.
