CAAP conducts 4-day webinar on drones

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will be holding a 4-day webinar on drones or Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) starting Monday, October 19.

The webinar, hosted by CAAP's Regulatory Standards Development Division (RSDD), will feature lectures from regulation officers and industry practitioners who will give an overview of the rules, regulations, and certification processes as established by CAAP as well as the latest trends in the industry.

Each part of the webinar series will be held on October 19, 23, 26, and 30, respectively, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, via a Youtube link to be given to the registered participants.

As of the webinar's last day of registration, an overwhelming number of participants have registered to join. More than 600 participants have signed up for each day of the webinar, gathering 845 participants for the first day's webinar alone.

The first part of the webinar series, led by RSDD Acting Chief Atty. Frank Edward G. Marty, will discuss the fundamentals of RPAS regulations and operations. Included topics are: the rules of the air, the operational environment of unmanned aircraft, safety concerns, and other essential skills every beginner and professional operator and controller should know before taking off to ensuring the safety of the operator, the controller, and most especially, the general public's.

The second part of the webinar series will delve into how skilled, responsible, and certified RPAS operators and controllers are crucial in upholding public safety and in creating a protected community as contactless activities are further established in the "new normal."

The third session of the webinar series will discuss RPAS registration for commercial purposes as well as how it should operate in order to safely co-exist with other aircraft and seamlessly integrate into the airspace. This third session will feature lectures from CAAP Airworthiness Department-Aircraft Registration Section and Philippine Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC). 

The fourth and last session of the webinar series will illustrate the process of RPAS Operation Certification. Additionally, insights from Unmanned Aerial System Consulting (Philippines) owner and entrepreneur Julian Teodoro will provide both established and start-up companies and RPAS enthusiasts guides and tips on how they can utilize their RPAS in various industries. Updates on the latest and trending developments and opportunities in the RPAS industry will also be shared.
