MMDA's Pialago hits people making Reina Nacino's grief a 'drama serye'

MMDA' spokesperson Celine Piolago draws contrasting reactions for FB comments on Reina Nasino.

Giving her take regarding the issue of political prisoner Reina "Ina" Nacino, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) spokesperson Assistant Secretary Celine Pialago took a swipe at people "sensationalizing" the mother's grief on Sunday (October 18).

In a Facebook post on her official account, Pialago weighed in on the issue of the 23-year-old political prisoner, saying not all mothers in prison are able to visit the burial of their children.

"Kaya kung sumisimpatya kayo kay Reina Mae Nasino, pag-aralan niyo mabuti ang dahilan bakit siya nakulong at kilalanin niyong mabuti kung sino siya sa lipunan (If you are sympathizing with Reina Mae Nasino, learn why she got arrested and know who she really is in society)," she wrote in her post.

"Masyado ninyong ginagawang pang drama serye sa hapon ang paghihinagpis niya. Tigilan niyo! (You are making her grief an afternoon drama series. Stop it!)" the MMDA spokesperson said

The FB post garnered mixed reactions on social media; some got angry and called her out, while others sided with Piolago, agreeing with her sentiment.

Nasino was five months pregnant when she was detained at the Manila City Jail-Female Dorm (MCJFD) on Nov. 5,2019.

She was among three activists arrested by authorities at the Bayan office in Tondo, Manila.

Progressive groups claimed that the charges filed against them were trumped-up and the pieces of evidence were all planted.

Initially, Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 47 allowed Nasino to visit her daughter for three days. However, the court reduced it to three hours for two days upon the letter request of the MCJFD warden, citing shortage of personnel.

It can be recalled that even Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra sympathized with Nasino over the demise of her baby.
