Filipino modern art pieces to be auctioned at León Exchange Online Auction

Having art online is not new. And with the changing times, the art scene has fully embraced the digital world, from its social events and galleries to auctions. This weekend is another testament to that as León Gallery launches a two-day online auction, showcasing the best art pieces and modern furniture.

What's new with the online auction is its partnership with a man expert in both the arts and medical field--somewhat a nod to the significant role of medical workers during this challenging time.

"For the León Exchange 17th Online Auction, we have a medical practitioner and design consultant Dr. Joel Malixi on board," as stated in the gallery's catalogue. "His innovative approach to mix-and-match design selection reveals his eclectic style as a celebrated tastemaker in his field of expertise."

From old Filipino masters, mid-century moderns, to contemporary artists, the auction is set to present masterpieces from different parts of the world.

Guests can expect a comic allure from the works of Charlie Co. One of the most prolific painter in the Visayan art scene, Charlie's works bring a satirical and whimsical view of reality, drawn from his experience in China, all painted in a circus-themed aesthetic.

Known for his political art during the Martial Law years, Emmanuel Garibay's imagery is notably vivid and truthful, with a biting tones of gloom. His pieces present a combination of social realist and avant-garde figurative expressionism.

Romeo Enriquez often paints idyllic scenes that feature the Filipino rural life and folkloric myths. He paints one of the most beloved heroes in Philippine mythology, Princess Urduja, in a much more intimate scene, a picture of beauty and resilience.

See art through a modern gaze with Abot Tala, a personalized modern learning hub for teens aged 12 to 18. The works of emerging artists such as Monica Castillo, Rellie Liwag, and Arlene Villaver help in showcasing the female practitioners in Philippine contemporary art. A portion of the proceeds from the featured art are ear-marked for Abot Tala.

Up for auction as well are the works of surrealist painter Salvador Dali. The Spanish painter is known for his larger-than-life colorful personality and unique dreamscape and symbols, like the melting clock and fictional animals.
