Central Visayas posts 'very low' COVID-19 positivity rate – DOH

CEBU CITY (PNA) – The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas has recorded a very low positivity rate pegged at an average of 2.3 percent in the past three days.

DOH-7 Regional Director Dr. Jaime Bernadas on Friday said that data on Thursday showed 2.0-percent positivity rate as only 48 swab specimens tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) out of 2,397 results released by 10 accredited laboratories in the region.

On Wednesday, the DOH-7 recorded a 3.87 positivity rate as 103 swab specimens were found to be COVID-19 positive out of 2,659 results in eight of 10 laboratories tapped to conduct reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction tests.

Tuesday’s tests rendered a 0.89-positivity rate. Out of 2,820 results released by the DOH-7, only 57 were found to be positive of coronavirus disease in PCR testing by nine of 10 laboratories.

The DOH-7 noted a 6.3-positivity rate on Monday due to the low turnout of people who submitted themselves for swab testing, he said.

Meanwhile, the agency said that a total of 64 new recoveries were reported in Cebu island, noting a 1.7-percent growth in COVID-19 recoveries in two weeks of surveillance.

Bernadas said Thursday’s data showed that 41 of the new recoveries were from Cebu province, 21 from Cebu City and two from Mandaue City.

The was no recovery recorded in the neighboring provinces of Bohol, and Negros Oriental, while Siquijor remained COVID-19-free after its three patients, who were returning locally stranded individuals, recovered last October 8.

The region also logged 48 new coronavirus cases, 32 from Cebu province, seven from Cebu City, four from Mandaue City, three from Bohol, and one each from Negros Oriental and Lapu-Lapu City.

With the 64 recoveries, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the region was pegged at 964.

Central Visayas has a total of 19,399 recoveries, which was 89.5 percent of the 21,667 total cases registered since the onset of the health crisis.

As of Thursday, the region has registered a 6.01-fatality rate with a death tally of 1,304.
