A former police officer was shot dead by an unidentified gunman onboard a motorcycle in Tondo, Manila on Thursday morning.
Police identified the victim as Dranreb Cipriano, 48, resident of the said area. Police Staff Sergeant Marlon Cipriano, Jr., reportedly told the police that the victim went absent without leave (AWOL) after he was assigned at Police Regional Office 5.
Investigation showed that Cipriano was with his wife Vivian onboard a gray Yamaha Mio motorcycle at Vitas Street in Tondo, Manila at around 9:10 a.m.
Then, the perpetrator, also onboard a motorcycle, appeared and shot the victim several times in different parts of his body, killing him instantly. The gunman then sped away toward Ugbo Street.
Bystanders rushed the victim's wife to the hospital after she sustained abrasions from falling off the motorcycle. She was eventually discharged.
Two fired bullets, six fired cartridge cases, a pistol loaded with a live ammunition in its chamber, and a magazine loaded with 14 live ammunition were retrieved from the crime scene.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing.
Cipriano's body was brought to Funeraria Lorenzo Inc. for autopsy examination.
