Before his interment, Dominican priests paid tribute to Ramirez in a funeral mass attended by the religious and the laity.

In his homily, Father Boyd Sulpico thanked the Lord for the life of Fr. Sonny.

"All of us are here to honor him and to give thanks to the Lord for Fr. Sonny was wonderfully made," he said.

According to Sulpico, the late priest has his own brand of charity and humility.

"He was an embodiment of hope to those who reach out to him," he said.

"His words healed those who listened to him. Families were reunited. Husbands and wife found themselves together again because of him," added Sulpico.

Ramirez, he said, also led so many people back to the Lord.

Sulpico said it is of no wonder that there was an outburst of emotions in the past few days with his passing because "Fr. Sonny mattered so much in our lives."

Fr. Romulo Rodriguez, vicar of Bahay Dominiko, thanked Ramirez for being "instrumental" for his entry to the Dominican Order in 1983.

He said Fr. Sonny even went to Lucena City to be the homilist in his first thanksgiving mass as a Dominican priest in 1985.

At the end of his speech, Rodriguez asked the well-loved priest to now rest in peace.

Ramirez died Sunday due to a heart attack. He was 74.#
