'How It Started' trend takes over Twitter sports

The "How It Started" vs "How It's Going" trend has taken sports fans to a trip down memory lane.

The trend initially included couples celebrating their relationship as to how it actually began. Now, it has taken over social media and even sports teams and stars have gotten into the act.

Tennis star Naomi Osaka, 22, jumped in the trend by sharing a childhood picture, followed by one where she holds the US Open trophy.

Now the world No. 3, Osaka played her last match on Sept. 12 where she beat Victoria Azarenka 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the final of the US Open to win her 6th career title.

American gymnast Simone Biles also hopped onto the trend.

Biles started gymnastics when she was six. Sixteen years later, she won a combined total of 30 Olympic and World Championship medals. The 23-year-old is the world's third most-decorated gymnast, behind Belarus' Vitaly Scherbo (33 medals) and Russia's Larisa Latynina (32 medals).

FC Barcelona, meanwhile, shared Lionel Messi's first license photo when he arrived at the club nearly 20 years ago, paired with a photo of Messi's six Ballon d'Ors.

The Argentinian striker joined the Catalan club when he was just 13 years old.

The San Antonio Spurs posted two photos of trio Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, and Tony Parker. The first one was reminiscent of their playing years where they won four NBA championships together playing for the Spurs from 2002 through 2016.

While the second is a more recent photo of the big three, with their retired jersey numbers seen in the background. The Spurs retired Duncan's jersey in 2016, Ginobili's and Parker's in 2019.

The meme trend began recently, with netizens using the How It Started vs It's Going trend to spark positivity of hope amid a dreadful year.
