NPA gunsmith arrested in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY—An alleged gunsmith of the New People’s Army (NPA) for southern Panay Island has been arrested by units of Police Regional (PRO-6) in Miag-ao town, Iloilo province.

PRO-6 Director Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan identified the suspect as Joemarie Arro, who allegedly supplies firearms to rebels NPA believed to operate in southern Iloilo province and Antique province.

“His arrest will have an effect in the activities of the NPA in southern Panay,” said Pamuspusan.

Arro was arrested by PRO-6’s Regional Intelligence Division 6 (RID-6) and Miag-ao Police Station Thursday, October 8.

Intelligence reports show Arro has links with Joven Ceralvo, who is believed to be the commanding officer of the NPA’s Suyak Platoon, which operates in southern Panay.

Recovered from Arro were a 12-gauge shotgun, seven caliber .38 revolvers, .38 pistol with magazine, five air guns, and a semi-pistol of unknown caliber.

Also recovered were 187 assorted ammunitions, 12 assorted magazines, five barrels of 12-gauge shotgun, and his tools.

Aside from supplying the NPA with firearms, Arro was also said to be producing and selling firearms illegally.
