Ariadna Gutierrez denies throwing shade at Pia Wurtzbach

Setting the record straight.

Former Miss Colombia Universe Ariadna Gutierrez has denied reports that she threw shade at 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach in her recent interview.

Gutierrez, who won 1st runner-up in the historic pageant in Las Vegas five years ago, said people misinterpreted her comment about the Filipino-German beauty queen.

Uploaded on pageant site Paleonthology 101, a follower on Instagram explained that Gutierrez was saying she did not realize Wurtzbach was a strong competition during the finals.

The fan added that the word "ghost" is a popular expression in Colombia. A post allegedly shared by Gutierrez referred to Wurtzbach as a "ghost" because she doesn't see her a lot during pre-pageant  activities.

“I know! Exactly what I said but people don't even understand what I said,” Gutierrez said. “Thank you for saying it how it is. I feel so sad for the super nice Filipinos I've met in my life. They are not like this."

Gutierrez claimed she didn't notice Wurtzbach until the competition. “I used to go with the Latinas and we sat next to the Asians and I did not notice her. She was rarely mingling with the other girls and I couldn't see her qualities until the finals."

It would be recalled that there was a mix-up in the announcement of the winner at the 2015 Miss Universe beauty pageant. TV host Steve Harvey revealed it was Miss Colombia who won the crown when in fact it was Miss Philippines.
