P45-million shabu seized from 2 suspects in Cebu City

CEBU CITY—Six kilos of suspected shabu worth P45 million were seized from two drug suspects in a buy-bust operation here Monday morning.

Police identified the suspects as Reynaldo Si-it Atillo, 47, and Reynante Cabije Tacatani, 36.                  

A poseur-buyer first transacted with Atillo, who agreed to sell him shabu worth P 1 million.

The transaction took place in a house in Fatima Homes in Barangay Inayawan here.

After Atillo was cornered, police also caught Tacatani in the same house possessing five kilos of shabu.

“This is another breakthrough in our campaign to stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in Cebu City. I commend the Station 7 and Station 8 of the Cebu City Police Office for this successful operation,” said Police Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, chief of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas.

Ferro said the two suspects were members of a big-time drug group, whose leader is currently detained at the Cebu City Jail.

Ferro identified the leader of the illegal syndicate as a certain Jao.

Ferro said Jao had access to cellphones while even in jail that allowed him to continue his illegal drug transactions.

Ferro asked the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to come up with strict measures to prevent drug personalities from using cellphones.

The seized shabu were kept in Chinese tea packs, an indication that they were smuggled into the country, Ferro said.

Ferro said the PRO 7 will be meeting with customs and port officials to detect the smuggling of illegal drugs into Metro Cebu.
