The Manila city government has distributed at least 5,897 emergency go bags containing first aid equipment to 60 schools in the capital city.
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso earlier said that teachers will be prioritized in the distribution of the bags to help them protect their students once face-to-face classes are allowed again.
Each bag contains sheer bandages, antibiotic ointments, burn creams, an emergency thermal blanket, an emergency thermal sleeping bag, emergency water and food bars, a rope, an emergency solar radio, a hand crank flashlight, among others.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Domagoso reminded residents to be prepared when disaster strikes.
"Tandaan, unahin ang kaligtasan. Maging maingat sa lahat ng oras, lalo na sa gitna ng pandemya. Anumang panganib o sakuna, mahalaga'y tayo'y maagap at handa (Remember, safety first. Always be careful, especially in the middle of the pandemic. No matter what danger or disaster, it is important that we are ready)," he said.
The city government is set to distribute more bags in the coming days.
