Respect Perete's privacy, Guevarra says of DOJ official's resignation

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra on Thursday, Oct. 1, urged the public to respect the privacy of former Undersecretary Markk Perete in his decision to resign from his post.

“As these reasons were very personal, the least that we could do for him is to respect his privacy and wish him well,” said the secretary.

Though he knows the reason for the resignation, Guevarra declined to disclose what it is.

“As a presidential appointee, Usec. Markk Perete tendered his resignation to the President today,” he said.

“Before doing so, he explained to me the reasons for tendering his resignation,” he added.

Perete announced his resignation early on Thursday morning.

“After much thought, I have decided to submit my resignation from the DOJ effective today due to serious reasons,” read his statement.

“I would have liked to continue under Secretary Guevarra's leadership but it would be a disservice to do so at this time,” he added.

Perete was brought into the DOJ by Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra back in 2018 along with Undersecretaries Emmeline Aglipay-Villar and Adrian Sugay.

Prior to his stint at the DOJ as undersecretary and spokesman, Perete had been technical assistant with the rank of assistant secretary for Legal Affairs at the Office of the President.
