Bongbong running in 2022, spox says

Former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will “definitely” seek a national position in 2022, his spokesperson said Wednesday.

“Definitely, Sen.Bongbong Marcos will be seeking a national position come 2022,” Atty. Vic Rodriguez, Marcos’ spokesperson, told DZMM Teleradyo in an interview.

Rodriguez did not specify what position Marcos will run for.

Rodriguez said Marcos had all the opportunity to run in the last 2019 elections but did not do so because the former senator wanted to prove his sincerity and seriousness in his election protest against Vice President Leni Robredo.

The lawyer also clarified that Marcos will not abandon his electoral protest against Robredo, adding that the former senator will continue with their protest “regardless of the outcome.”

“Eto po ay laban ng samabayanang Pilipino upang malaman ang totoo resulta, at kung sino ang tunay na nanalo bilang pangalawang pangulo noong 2016 election. Aming pananagutuin ang mga nangdaya nung 2016 elections (This is also a fight of the Filipino people, for them to know the real results, and the real winner of the vice presidential elections last 2016. We will make sure that all those who cheated in the 2016 elections will be held liable),” Rodriguez said.

The camp of Marcos had earlier said that their protest is “under real threat of becoming moot and academic,” after it was reported that the Supreme Court, sitting as Presiditanl Electoral Tribunal, is not expected to resolve the Marcos’ election protest against Robredo this year.

In its Sept. 29 resolution, the PET required several pleadings and documents not only from Marcos and Robredo but also from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG).

“Considering the very thin time left in the term of the contested position, our protest is under real threat of becoming moot and academic by events leading to 2022 such as the filing of candidacy, campaign and national election that would reduce the clamor and right of the people to know who really won the vice presidency illusory,” the camp of Marcos said in a statement Wednesday.
