Valencia City posts first COVID-19 fatality

DAVAO CITY - The city of Valencia in Bukidnon province recorded on Tuesday, September 29, its first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) fatality.

In a statement, the city government said the fatality was a 64-year old female resident of Purok 2, Poblacion, Valencia City. She died at around 9:10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bukidnon Provincial Medical Center (BPMC).

The patient was admitted for a week at Medidas Hospital in Purok 10 Barangay Poblacion, and was transferred to BPMC in Malaybalay City on Monday, September 28.

The city government said the patient's RT-PCR swab result, confirming she was positive for COVID-19, was released at around 4:38 p.m. on Tuesday.

The local government unit added that Medidas Hospital will be placed on lockdown, and focused containment by order of Valencia City Mayor Azucena Huervas.

"The hospital management has been informed and they have given their full cooperation," it said.

Valencia City has recorded six new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, including a 31-year-old man who was exposed to the school nurse who tested positive for COVID-19 recently. Two other cases were exposed to a confirmed positive case.

The city has recorded a total of 83 COVID-19 cases, with 26 active cases.
