The Philippines has logged 2,426 new COVID-19 cases, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Wednesday.

The new cases pushed the country’s cumulative tally to 311,694. Of these, 52,702 are active cases or those still undergoing treatment.
Most of the new cases were recorded in the National Capital Region with 887 new infections, followed by Cavite with 201, Rizal with 147, Negros Occidental with 115, and Batangas with 99.
Recoveries increased to 253,488 after 585 more patients survived from the dreaded illness. The death count, however, jumped to 5,504 with 58 new fatalities, 42 of whom died in September, 12 in August, and four in July.
Isolation policy
Meanwhile, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that there is a possibility that some individuals might hide their true state of health after the government started to require mild and asymptomatic COVID-19 patients to be isolated in temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMF).
Vergeire said that health authorities just need to effectively explain to the public the benefits of isolating in TTMFs.
A group of medical experts, the Healthcare Professionals Alliance Against COVID-19 (HPAAC) has appealed to the IATF to reconsider its policy as “requiring facility-based isolation even for COVID patients with the capacity to home-isolate can lead to their refusal to disclose their symptoms and be tested in order to avoid isolation in government facilities.”
Vergeire said that she agrees with this observation of HPAAC.
“We do not disagree with HPAAC, it is one of the facts na pinag-usapan noon na that might happen but tulad ng sinabi doon and sinasabi ngayon, kailangan lang ipaliwanag nang maayos sa ating mga kababayan ,” said Vergeire.
“Hindi ako nag di-disagree because that is a possibility. Actually pinag-usapan din naman iyan noong nagkaroon ng IATF meeting, the experts were there, and they were saying that this is one of the disadvantages or something that might happen kapag ginawa natin iyan ,” she added.
Vergeire said that there is nothing to worry about with regards to the policy.
,” she added.
