COVID-19 cases among Coast Guard frontliners rise to 1,616

Cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Philippine Coast Guard frontliners grew to 1,616 after 47 new confirmed cases were added to the tally within the past six days.

Latest data from the organization showed that from September 23 to 28, a total of 39 recovered personnel were recorded, bringing the recoveries to 1,531.

Active cases are now at 85 while no deaths have been reported.

The Coast Guard also recorded 21 reinfections among its personnel.

“The health condition of infected PCG frontline personnel is regularly monitored, most especially the 21 cases of reinfection as of yesterday, 28 September 2020 – five of whom remain active, while 16 others have successfully recovered for the second and third time of reinfection,” the Coast Guard said.

Aside from the regular conduct of swab testing, the command said it also ensuring the regular supply of vitamins, personal protective equipment sets, medical supplies, and nutritious meals to boost their immune system.

They also implement strategic deployment to ensure that frontline personnel have rest periods and work breaks. They have also been using UV lights to augment the manual disinfection of workstations and billeting areas.

Admiral George Ursabia, Coast Guard commandant, disclosed that the quarantine facility intended for COVID-19 infected personnel, which was initially scheduled to be completed this month, is expected to be opened on October 5.

The facility can accommodate up to 224 frontline personnel. It will allow the Coast Guard Medical Service to better manage the active COVID-19 cases within the organization for their speedy recovery and rehabilitation.
