OLONGAPO CITY (PNA) – Six police officers were among the 11 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in this city.
Based on the report of the Olongapo COVID-19 Task Force on Sunday night, five of them were members of the Olongapo City Police Office while the other one was assigned in Bulacan.
The task force said the five infected city police officers contracted the virus from their colleague who tested positive last September 26.
The patients have mild COVID-19 symptoms, and are now on strict home isolation, the task force said.
The task force, headed by Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr., said contact tracing of the persons who have been with the patients was being undertaken by the City Health Office.
“As part of the precautionary protocols, they are required to undergo the necessary 14-day home quarantine during which they will be regularly monitored,” Paulino said.
The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in this city is now 522, with 240 on active status.
Meanwhile, the task force also reported that a 68-year-old man from Barangay West Tapinac succumbed to the viral disease, raising the death toll to 21.
On the other hand, four patients have recovered from the dreaded disease, bringing the total number of recoveries to 261.
“Your local government is hard at work to preserve the general welfare and protect public health. We expect everyone’s cooperation by complying with the rules and measures set by the city and barangay authorities. We can beat this disease by our united stand,” Paulino said.
