"Send a message: #iwillvotein2022," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in his Twitter account Saturday.

In an infographic, the poll official even urged netizens to post a thinking selfie.

"Post a Thinking Selfie, to send the message that you will vote in 2022 and that you are seriously thinking about who you should vote for," said Jimenez.

The call was issued days after a lawmaker proposed to the poll body to consider the possibility of postponing the May, 2022 national and local elections amid the threat of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In the online voter education channel of Comelec, Jimenez also urged qualified voters to already register in the ongoing voter registration.

"If you are intending to register, then please do so as early as possible," he said.

"We have about a year of registration period. That's quite a long time. However, you must take note that we also need to register a lot of people. So the best thing is for people to register as soon as they can," Jimenez added.

Voter registration for the May, 2022 polls already resumed last September 1 except in areas under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or Modified ECQ.

The poll body said voter registration will automatically resume in areas under ECQ or MECQ once the  quarantine status is either downgraded to general community quarantine (GCQ) or modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), or if quarantine is lifted entirely.

According to the Comelec, applications for registration may be submitted from Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Office of the Election Officer.
