2 virtual art exhibits open in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY—While the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has shut down museums and galleries in this city, two groups have managed to open virtual art exhibitions.

Hubon Ilonggo and Himbon separately launched virtual exhibits on Friday, September 25.

The “Padayon” and “Unmasked: Pandemic Journey” virtual exhibits respectively showcase works made within the past six months ever since the COVID-19 outbreak.

The works—ranging from oil painting, acrylic painting and mixed media—are not solely speaking of the pandemic’s fears, but also of hope and resilience.

Hubon Ilonggo’s participating artists are Ambassador Uriel Norman Garibay, Antonio Anas Jr., Kevin Bartonico, Margaux Blas, Bonito, Michael Catigan, Edmar Colmo, Jason Delgado, Joshua Dela Torre, Tyrone Espinosa, Kinno Florentino, Rommel Garde, Joebert Gayoma, Bea Gison, Melvin Guirhem, Tatz Jaleco, Jeline Laporga, Orland, Michael Pamonag, Agos Payapa, Pam Reyes, Marc Joseph Sotomil, and Hannah Hope Vergara.

Himbon’s participating artists are John Ernie Acedera, Charmaine Española, Marrz Capanang, Vic Fario, Bea Gison, Harry Mark Gonzales, Carlo Juntado, Gilbert Labordo, Nick Lanes, Alex Ordoyo, Aljerico Saraum, and Althea Villanueva.

The virtual exhibits, organized by the artists themselves, marked the reemergence of the almost monthly shows in the metropolis that were once income-generators, especially to those who left their day jobs during pre-pandemic days to become full-pledged artists.

Meanwhile, Omriel Art Galerie and Galleria Ilongga also have ongoing virtual art exhibits showcasing works of Ilonggo artists.
