MB Youth Talks with Margie Moran, Frankie Pangilinan, and Pepe Diokno

Bringing together icons of culture and young advocates, MB Youth Talks discusses and dissects the importance of Filipino culture today

Mark your calendars for 4 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 25, to catch the second episode of Manila Bulletin Lifestyle’s webinar MB Youth Talks.

MB Youth Talks, a collaboration with entrepreneurship network Impact Hub Manila, is a series of inspirational webinars for the Filipino youth, by the Filipino youth. Through it, Manila Bulletin Lifestyle gives the youth sector a platform for representation, as well as a safe space for interactions with each other along with mavericks and leaders from whom they can learn.

This week we will be redefining what culture means to the youth of today.

Viewers can expect to hear from Margie Moran, an icon of culture, who considers herself a retired artist, and the chair of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CPP). Throughout her life, from her tenure as Miss Universe 1973 at the age of 19, she has promoted the Philippines and Filipino culture both locally and internationally. Through the MB Youth Talks she will share her exciting vision for revitalizing Filipino culture that is not merely relevant but necessary.

She will be joined by young cultural advocates. Singer-songwriter Frankie Pangilinan was born into a family embedded in Philippine culture. And still Frankie has carved her own path and inspired young Filipino netizens through her music and her advocacies. Director Pepe Diokno won the prestigious Best Debut Picture Award at the Venice Film Festival. Their generations, Gen Z and Millennials, respectively, both added to, amended, and transformed Filipino culture with new perspectives.

In an increasingly globalized world, it is easy to get lost amid the cultural exports of our neighbors. From entertaining K-dramas to Hollywood blockbusters, to the European television dramas available for streaming, we find ourselves overlooking the best the Philippines has to offer.

MB Youth Talks brings all these esteemed Filipino culture advocates together to discuss and dissect the importance of culture. Viewers can also ask questions and interact with our speakers, so get your (constructive) comments ready. Impact Hub Manila founder and CEO Ces Rondario will moderate the webinar.

At the successful launch on Sept. 11, viewers heard from Rep. Sarah Elago, content creator Janina Vela, and entrepreneur Jules Guiang on the identity, reality, and dreams of the Filipino youth. ICYMI: Check it out below:
