Baguio City opens VISITA online registration to local tourists from Ilocos region

BAGUIO CITY – Local tourists from Region 1 - Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte - who want to visit the country’s Summer Capital may now start their online registration through the Baguio Visitors Information and Travel Assistance (VISITA) platform.

Visitors from Region I  can visit visita.baguio.gov.ph to register and upload their itinerary of travel, test results, travel authority, and pre-bookings in accredited hotel establishments prior to their visit.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said only tourists from the Ilocos Region will be allowed to enter the city starting October 1, 2020 to pave the way for the sure, safe, and responsible opening of the local tourism industry.

Initially, 200 registrants to the Baguio VISITA platform can be accommodated in the city starting October 1. The number will be assessed on a day to day basis to ascertain the capacity of the tourism industry stakeholders to handle the influx of tourists.

Magalong said that daytime and do it yourself (DIY) tours will not be allowed during the opening of the tourism industry to avoid the spread of the coronavirus in the city and the places that will be visited by the tourists.

The Baguio VISITA online registration platform was established through the assistance of the Tourism Promotions Board (TBP), one of the attached agencies of the Department of Tourism (DOT) that is in charge of the marketing and promotions of tourism in the different parts of the country.

Magalong said that the guidelines that were crafted for the opening of the local tourism industry are dynamic because they could change anytime depending on the situation.

The Ridge and Reef tourism bubble, the 3-day North Luzon mini- travel fair and the activation of the online registration's VISITA web application,were launched last Sept. 22 at the Baguio Convention Center by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.

Tourism industry stakeholders from Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur, and Ilocos Norte set up their respective booths to aggressively promote the tourist spots in their areas that will be opened to prospective visitors from the established Baguio-Ilocos tourism corridor.

The three-phased tourism endeavor will start with travelers from the local governments that are involved in the corridor. The second phase will see the gradual opening to visitors coming from Regions II and II, while phase three will allow the opening up for tourists coming from the different parts of the country probably by the end of the year.
