"Barry" has been the nickname assigned by netizens and some Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officials to pertain to the barriers of the new bus lanes on EDSA.

But, do you know how much you will pay once you hit "Barry" while travelling along EDSA?
Recently, barrier-related vehicular incidents on EDSA went up despite the safety signage equipped to the concrete barriers.
Assistant Secretary Celin Pialago, MMDA spokesperson, said a driver is required to pay the barriers once they destroy or damage them.
"A concrete barrier costs P6,900, and the driver responsible for its destruction is required to pay it," she said.
"It is that expensive because these are concrete. They really cost that much," she added.
For minimal damages such as scratches, Pialago said the fine that will be used for its fixing is P500.
Since there are still some plastic barriers on EDSA, the price for wrecking plastic barriers is P5,000, she said.
Poor "Barry" has been the alibi of intoxicated and reckless motorists since they have been installed along EDSA.
However, such claims were quickly refuted by the MMDA in order for "Barry" not to be the lame alibi of hard-headed drivers.
Pialago has explained for countless occasions that the barriers of the new bus lanes are not the problem, but irresponsible motorists who cannot own up to their mistakes and shortcomings.
"If only they will follow the speed limit, there will be no problem. Also, they should not be driving while they are under the influence of alcohol," she stressed.
