Ruby Ruiz bags Best Actress plum at 2020 Harlem Int'l Film Festival

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) announced via Facebook Monday that actress Ruby Ruiz won the Best Actress award in this year’s Harlem International Film Festival in New York for her performance in the film “Iska.”

“Congratulations to Ms. Ruby Ruiz of the film, “Iska” for winning Best Actress at the Harlem International Film Festival 2020 this Sept. 21, 2020 at Harlem, New York, USA!” the post read.

Ruiz also bagged the Best Actress Award for the same film directed by Theodore Boborol at the 2019 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

The film follows the story of a loving, impoverished grandmother of an autistic child who loses everything, turning into someone society reckons her to be.

It stars Soliman Cruz, Ricky Rivero, Jonic Magno, Jomari Angeles, RK Bagatsing, and Beauty Gonzalez, among others.

The Harlem International Film Festival 2020 was held from Sept.10-20.
