ILOILO CITY – A former policeman was one of two suspected drug deadlers arrested in a buy-bust operation in this city last Sunday, September 20.
Police Regional Office (PRO-6) named the ex-policeman as Joel Villaruel Destacamento of Barangay Veterans Village.
PRO-6 Spokesperson Police Lt. Joem Malong said the 55-year-old Destacamento was nabbed by joint elements of the PRO-6 Police Drug Enforcement Unit, Iloilo City Police Station 4, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 6 (PDEA-6).
Destacamento and the 57-year-old Francisco Cabresa Tañedo reportedly sold shabu worth P17,200 to an undercover policeman before they were busted. Also confiscated from the duo was another package of shabu worth almost P30,000.
Based on records, Destacamento’s last assignment was as desk officer at the Iloilo Provincial Police Office (IPPO). Since then, he has been identified as high-valued drug personality.
On the other hand, Tañedo has been identified as a street-level drug personality.
The suspects are now detained and are awaiting charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
