DFA notes spike in COVID-19 cases, recoveries among Filipinos abroad


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday reported spikes both in the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases and recoveries among Filipinos abroad.

Added to its daily tally of COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos worldwide were 21 new confirmed cases and 25 new recoveries, all recorded in Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. 
 
Meanwhile, only 1 new fatality was reported in the Middle East.
 
To date, the total number of COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos is now 10,411. Of the total, 6,619 have recovered, 3,014 are undergoing treatment and 778 died due to the disease. 
 
On the government’s repatriation program, more than 300 displaced and distressed Filipinos from Kuwait are scheduled to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport anytime tonight.
 
According to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, the plane carrying the over 300 Filipinos is the sixteenth chartered flight from that country since the COVID-19 pandemic began sometime in February this year.
