Leni urges physical distancing as people troop to Manila Bay beachfront

Vice President Leni Robredo urged people to observe physical distancing as she lamented that this health protocol against COVID-19 was not observed by people who flocked to the opening of the white sand beach at Manila Bay last week.

Speaking in her weekly radio show “BISErbisyong Leni” Sunday, Robredo noted that physical distancing was not observed when it was temporarily opened for public viewing this weekend.

"Ang daming tao doon sa opening noong sa may Roxas Boulevard...Nakakatakot tingnan kasi walang social distancing, talagang siksik iyong tao,” she said.

The Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DENR) led the event to mark the annual International Coastal Clean-up
Day.

Photos of the throng waiting in line caught the attention of netizens, including Robredo, after they noticed that most of the visitors were not practicing physical distancing.

People were seen crowded in the area to take pictures and get a peek into the new attraction on a stretch of the Manila Bay’s shoreline.

Robredo reminded those will visit the dolomite-covered portion of the baywalk to maintain a safe distance from each other to prevent the spread of coronavirus infections.

The Vice President asked government personnel on the site to prioritize public safety.

“Sana bago nagbukas naisipan ito na ito iyong mga hindi na mababawi, eh. Kapag naghawaan hindi na natin mababawi,” Robredo said.

“Sana moving forward, makaisip ng way na kahit may pumapasyal doon siguraduhin pa din iyong physical distancing. Iyong mga namamahala po ng lugar sana bigyan nila ng priority,” she added.
