Cop dies, 3 others wounded in robbery hold-up in Manila

A police officer was killed while three others were injured in a robbery hold-up incident in Sta. Cruz, Manila Saturday afternoon.

Police identified the fatality as Police Executive Master Sergeant Roel Candido.  The injured --  Catherine Ornido, Suspicio Pisnot, and Vebsi Cañete – all suffered gunshot wounds.

Investigation showed that the injured victims who are reportedly gold dealers were plying F. Torres Street corner Soler Street in Manila onboard a car escorted by Candido who was driving a scooter, at around 5:45 p.m.

Closed circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained by reporters showed that after a car blocked the vehicle of the gold dealers, a man alighted from the vehicle and shot the victims.

Two men who were standing nearby shot Candido several times killing him instantly.

Brig. Gen. Rolando Miranda, Manila Police District (MPD) chief, said the gunmen took up to P2-million worth of cash and belongings.

Miranda said they will beef up police visibility by deploying more police officers in the area.
