Over P1.7 B in SAP 2 aid distributed to 242,453 public transport drivers


Over 242,000 public transport drivers have received more than P1.7 billion worth of emergency cash subsidies under the national government’s Social Amelioration Program (SAP), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Saturday, Sept. 19.

Citing its latest report on SAP second tranche distribution, the DSWD said around 242,453 public transport drivers got their subsidy as of Sept. 18. 

Based on the report, the number of public transport drivers from the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) areas who got their SAP 2 aid increased to 72,514. The SAP allocation distributed to them was more than P496.5 million.

While, the number of drivers of public utility vehicles (PUVs) and the Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) who benefitted from SAP 2 stood at 169,939. They got over P1.21 billion worth of cash aid.

The 242,453 public transport drivers are part of the DSWD’s latest list of 13,858,552 SAP 2 recipients.

So far, the DSWD has disbursed P82,731,680,650 for the second tranche distribution of SAP. 

The list of latest recipients of the SAP 2 aid also include 1,387,021 beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps);  5,978,043 low-income, and non-4Ps recipients; 3,279, 240  “waitlisted”, low-income, and non-4Ps households nationwide; and 1,827,982 “waitlisted” beneficiaries from ECQ areas.

DSWD spokesperson Irene Dumlao reassured the public that they will cover the more than 241,000 unserved beneficiaries for the second tranche within this month. 

The DSWD is targeting to serve 14.1 million SAP beneficiaries for the second tranche. 

The 11 areas covered by SAP 2 are Region III (Central Luzon), except Aurora province, the NCR; Region IV-A (CALABARZON); Benguet; Pangasinan; Iloilo; Cebu Province; Bacolod City; Davao City, Albay province and Zamboanga City.
