5 German diplomats, 35 partygoers freed after getting P2K citation tickets for violating health, distancing protocol

The 40 partygoers, including five German diplomats, who were arrested by policemen at a bar in Makati City for violating distancing and health protocols were released after being given citation tickets early Saturday morning (September 19).

The diplomats argued they enjoy diplomatic immunity but the Makati Police maintained they are not excused from getting citation tickets.
Like the 35 other violators, the five German diplomats will pay a fine of 1,000 for not wearing face masks, and another P1, 000 for not practicing social distancing. The fines will be paid at the Makati City hall.
Police swooped down on Kartel Rooftop Bar in Barangay Poblacion Friday night after receiving a tip from the Mayor’s Office about individuals violating local ordinances and health protocols inside the nightspot.
Some of the partygoers were so intoxicated they barely could stand up when police arrived. One partygoer tried to resist arrest and dropped the name of local politicians he claimed to have close ties in a bid to evade arrest They were all arrested and taken to the Makati Central Police Station in Barangay San Antonio for verification and issuance of citation tickets.
Makati City Ordinance No. 2020-152 prohibits drinking liquor outside one’s residence in Makati City during the imposition of state of calamity due to the public health emergency brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. It took effect last July 14.
