Police Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, PNP chief, and PCCI chairman Ambassador Benedicto Yujuico led the ceremonial launching and signing of articles of incorporation and by-laws of the Bayaning Pulis Foundation Inc. in Pasay City.

According to Cascolan, the establishment of the Bayaning Pulis Foundation was an another "milestone" in realizing the transformation roadmap of the organization -- the PNP Peace and Order Agenda for Transformation and Upholding of the Rule of Law or PNP P.A.T.R.O.L Plan 2030.

"This is a high impact project as part of the realization of PNP P.A.T.R.O.L 2030, and this time, it aims to secure the welfare and benefit of dependents of PNP personnel who died or permanently incapacitated in line of duty," Cascolan said.

"This noble program will benefit the children and dependents of our police officers who did the ultimate sacrifice for the country and Filipino people," he added.

A total of 2,298 policemen were killed in action in the past five years of which 913 dependents within the educational age category were accounted, data from the PNP-Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) said.

The first three beneficiaries of the foundation were Katrina Faye Magno, Zander Mangaldan, and Jean Resurrecion.

Katrina Faye is the daughter of the late Police Senior Master Sgt. Jason Magno of the Initao Municipal Police Station in Misamis Oriental who saved students at the Initao College by embracing a grenade lobbed by a man on Nov. 28, 2019.

Zander is the son of Police Master Sgt. Alexis Magaldan, the first casualty of the Special Action Force (SAF) in the Marawi City siege. He died on July 22, 2017 while defending Mapandi Bridge, a key structure seized by the soldiers and cops which led to the end of the five-month long siege.

Jean is the daughter of Police Major Joan Resurreccion, the chief of police of Carmen police station in North Cotabato. He was killed last Aug. 25, 2020 while in a hot pursuit operation against a group of armed men who were suspects in the murder of an Indian national.

Through the Bayaning Pulis Foundation, the beneficiaries were assured of educational assistance from elementary to college.

Police Brig. Gen. Rhoderick Armamento, chief of the PNP Center for Police Strategy Management (CPSM), hopes that the beneficiaries will have a better future and become more responsible and productive citizens through the assistance of the foundation.

Yujuico thanked the men and women of the PNP for their service to the nation.

“We, in PCCI, have continuing commitment to be part of the Bayaning Pulis Foundation. Rest assured we are going to be there for a better cooperations and colloboration of the PNP and private sector," he said.
