NTF, DPWH build Iligan City mega quarantine facility in 2 weeks
The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) turned over a newly constructed mega quarantine facility to the local government unit (LGU) of Iligan City on Wednesday.

NTF chief implementer Carlito Galvez Jr. said the facility, which was constructed in just two weeks, has a 120-bed capacity. He said it will boost the health care capacity of Iligan City, which is under the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until September 30.
"Kasabay po ng pagpapalakas ng ating testing at contact tracing dito sa siyudad, mahalaga din po na may pagdadalhan tayo ng mga pasyente na magpopositibo (Along with the strengthening of our testing and contact tracing in the city, it is important that we have enough facilities where we can bring the positive patients)," he told local government officials.
The mega quarantine facility is located at the NSC Industrial Complex.
The construction of 400 more health care facilities around the country is currently being expedited by the DPWH to encourage infected patients to avoid home quarantine and curb the spread of the disease.
"Since there is a strong clamor to avoid quarantines at home, we need to put them in isolation facilities. We are still giving assistance to LGUs like Iligan City in case there are added locations where we can build an isolation center," said DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain.
During the event, Galvez turned over to the city government 2,000 personal protective equipment (PPE) sets and 2,000 N95 masks.
Galvez said the national government will also provide them with high flow nasal cannulas and ventilators.
Meanwhile, the chief implementer pledged to assist in fast tracking the accreditation of Iligan’s first COVID-19 testing laboratory.
Iligan Mayor Celso Regencia accepted the health care facility on behalf of the city government, the fourth quarantine facility built by the DPWH in the area.
As of September 15, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed that Iligan City has 532 total cases, of which 256 are active cases, 256 recovered, and 20 died.
