Infected worker prompts Angono to close health office for disinfection

ANGONO, Rizal -- A confirmed COVID-19 case at the municipal health office here has prompted the local government to order its two-day closure for disinfection and sanitation purposes.

Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon announced on Facebook that the Municipal Health Office (MHO) will be closed September 17 and 18 (Thursday and Friday).

The MHO's temporary closure came at the heels of a postive test result for COVID-19 from one of its employees.

But a day prior to the scheduled closure, the office already limited its services to the issuance of health clearances and permits only. Other transactions will resume on Monday.

The Sanitation Office will remain open for the issuance of sanitary or burial permits.

Some of the MHO employees on Wednesday, September 16, began to undergo Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing, otherwise known as the swab test, in a booth set-up within the municipal hall compound.

Meanwhile, Calderon revealed that a new COVID-19 isolation facility located at Angono Lakeside Park would be operational soon. The isolation facility in Angono’s Forest Park at Nieves Hills, San Isidro is already up and running.

Earlier, Vice Mayor Gerardo Calderon said the municipal government is considering the option of celebrating the Higantes Festival--the town's signature tourism event every November--online.

However, this means that there would be no more street parades featuring hundreds of the town’s "higantes" or its version of giant mascots in colorful garb. These traditionally depict popular news makers or personalities.

As of September 15, the town has recorded six new positive cases including a one-year-old girl, the town’s youngest confirmed COVID-19 case so far. This brings to 85 the total number of active cases here.

There have been 283 recoveries and 17 deaths from the illness.
