Duterte willing to appear in congressional hearings on bills about red tape and corruption -- Go

President Duterte is prepared to appear in a congressional hearing on bills that aim to fight red tape and corruption in government, Senator Christopher Go announced Wednesday night.

The President made the commitment when he met with leaders of Congress to tackle government efforts to promote good governance. Senate President Vicente Sotto III, House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, and Go were present in the meeting.

"Willing PRRD patawag as resource person if kailangan (President Duterte is willing to be invited as resource person if needed)," the former assistant of the President said in a message to reporters.

He said the President's meeting with the lawmakers focused on legislative proposals on streamlining government process to curb red tape and corruption.

The President's meeting with the lawmakers came two days after endorsing the filing of complaints against several top ranking Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) officials over alleged anomalies in the state firm. A task force, led by the Department of Justice, earlier conducted a probe into the alleged corruption and other irregularities in PhilHealth upon the orders of the President.

Duterte has repeatedly denounced corruption in government, firing a number of officials allegedly involved in abuse and other anomalies.
