Toyota toughens up the 2020 Hilux Conquest

Toyota Motor Philippines has just taken the wraps off the 2020 Hilux. The new model features a more rugged look, powerful performance, combined with Toyota’s signature quality, durability, and reliability.

The new Hilux makes its commanding presence felt with its even tougher look characterized by a large hexagonal grille. Like before it will be offered in a number of variants, from the regular Hilux line, to the range-topping Conquest 4x2 and 4x4.

Stealing the scene are the Conquest variants with bi-beam LED headlamps and LED rear combination lamps with line guide. In the back, they’re fitted with a sports bar, over fender garnish and Conquest decals on both sides of the cargo bed. The tailgate gets the signature Hilux branding, with LED tail lamps. The Conquest variant also gets a bedliner and tail gate assist.

A digitized drive

Toyota has upgraded the driving experience from the moment you enter the pickup. Conquest variants get smart entry with a push start system while Hilux G and E grades benefit from keyless entry.

More information and entertainment is made available to the driver with a 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display in between its dials. This shows vital trip info like fuel consumption, range, and other readouts that can be configured to the driver’s liking.

For entertainment, there’s Built-in Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility for Conquest, G, and E grades. These can be controlled with steering-wheel mounted controls.

Palpable performance

The new Hilux 4x4 variants are powered by a 2.8L 1GD-FTV engine which gives 201 HP (204 Ps) max output, 500 Nm max torque for the AT variant. The MT variant, with an Intelligent Manual Transmission, produces 420 Nm max torque.

4x2 Conquest, G, and E variants will be fitted with the 2.4L 2GD-FTV engine that produces 148 HP and 400 Nm max torque. Both the 1GD and 2GD engine have been tuned to return 4-5% better fuel efficiency versus the previous generation Hilux.

Safety in every drive

Reigning in that power is an enviable suite of safety features. There’s SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) with Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Vehicle Stability Control, and Hill-Start Assist Control.

Conquest 4x4 benefit from seven airbags variants, Downhill Assist Control, Active Traction Control, clearance sonar sensors and a reverse camera.
