Public, students enjoined to honor teachers

The Department of Education enjoined current and former students as well as the general public to show their appreciation to teachers on National Teachers’ Month this month.

DepEd enjoined the public to create artworks as an appreciation for teachers this September. “Dahil ang Setyembre ay Buwan ng mga Guro, iparamdam natin sa kanila ang ating pagmamahal sa pamamagitan ng obra o artwork (Since September is teacher's month, let us show them our love through artworks),” DepEd posted on its official Facebook page.

“I-post ang inyong mga likha o katha at magbahagi ng maikling eksplanasyon kung bakit special si Ma'am o Sir (at) gamitin ang hashtag na #ParaKayTeacher (Post your creations and share a brief explanation of what makes Ma'am or Sir special (and) use the hashtag #ParaKayTeacher,” DepEd said. These artworks can be posted on the DepEd Philippines Facebook .

DepEd held a virtual kick off of the NTM hosted by DepEd Region 1 (Ilocos) last Sept. 7. With the theme “Gurong Filipino para sa Batang Filipino,” this year’s NTM stresses the crucial role, commitment, and dedication of teachers in the delivery of education to young Filipinos especially amidst the pandemic.

Every year, various treats await teachers on their special month courtesy of various partners from the academe, business conglomerates, business and civic organizations, corporate foundations and other organizations, government agencies, malls, media and publishing companies, museums, religious groups, and commercial and retail industries comprising the NTM Coordinating Council.

Planning and preparations for the synchronized programs, projects, and activities for the NTM, NTD, and WTD celebrations usually start months before the actual celebrations.

In previous years, schools were urged to conduct various activities for NTM. These include writing feature stories or write-ups about teachers through school papers, social media sites, and websites. Posting of streamers and announcements, mobilizing the support of the community and commercial establishments to pay tribute to teachers, and organizing various contests to honor teachers were also suggested by DepEd.

The 2020 NTM started on Sept. 5 and will culminate on Oct. 5 which is also the National Teachers’ Day (NTD) and World Teachers’ Day (WTD). However, due to the adjustments in the calendar for School Year (SY) 2020-2021, DepEd announced that the NTD will be celebrated on Oct. 10.
