LPA to bring rains over 3 areas

The State weather bureau is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) near the Bicol region and a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

Weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was last spotted 135 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes as of 3 a.m. Friday and will affect parts of the country.

According to Dela Cruz, the trough or extension of the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Bicol region, Mimaropa, Visayas, and Caraga.

Thunderstorms will prevail in these areas due to the weather disturbance within the next 24 to 36 hours. Dela Cruz said that the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

Aside from the LPA, PAGASA said a tropical depression was spotted 2,010 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, still outside PAR, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

The tropical depression is moving northwest at 15 kph and is not expected to enter PAR as it is moving away from the country. It will not also affect the weather in the Philippines, PAGASA said.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers will prevail in Metro Manila and the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned residents in areas affected by the LPA and localized thunderstorms that flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
