AMLC result of lifestyle check on PhilHealth officials out Monday
The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) is doing its part in fighting graft and corruption in the bureaucracy, that includes lifestyle checks on certain Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) officials, according to Executive Director Mel Georgie Racela.
Racela said the results of the lifestyle checks will be included in the report of the government task force probing the alleged anomalies in PhilHealth. The panel report will be submitted to the Office of the President on Monday, according to Racela.
"In terms of graft and corruption, the AMLC takes an an active role in fighting graft and corruption particularly the PhilHealth case," Racela said in a virtual press briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Friday.
"We are part of the task force formed by Secretary (Menardo) Guevarra and we were tasked to share or report on our lifestyle check investigation so that will be part of the report," he said.
A lifestyle check is usually carried by anti-corruption probers to determine the existence of any ill-gotten and unexplained wealth of government officials and employees.
Racela noted that AMLC, mandated to protect the country's financial systems from money laundering and terrorism financing, has a detection system on suspicious financial transactions. "If a transaction is significantly high and a single transaction involving an individual that will raise an alert in our system, and we are able detect that," he said.
Racela said the council is also helping in building up criminal cases against those behind the alleged illegal releases in the PhilHealth's Interim Reimbursement Mechanism.
The AMLC official, however, declined to reveal the results of the lifestyle checks on PhilHealth officials.
"The lifestyle investigation result will be part of the report to be submitted by the task force. I think the task force chair, Secretary Guevarra, will submit the report on Monday to the Office of the President. That's the only information I can share," he said
