Building where 2014 Mister International Neil Perez lives to be demolished

Mister International 2014 now Police Staff Sergeant Neil Perez (Mariano Perez Flormata Jr.) is heartbroken these days after he learned that the building in Tondo, Manila where he and his siblings grew up in would be demolished soon.

During an online chat, Perez said that the building located at R-1, Vitas Housing Project, Tondo, Manila, has been declared condemned by the Department of Engineering and Public Works of Manila, thus it would be dismantled.

Tenants of the Katuparan Vitas Housing Project were ordered to vacate the building 15 days from the receipt of the demolition order, he said.

The pageant king said that he and his three other siblings grew up in the three-storey building. He has transferred to another government structure nearby, although he still goes to the condemned unit to check on his mother. "Grade 1 pa lang ako noon nandito na kami nakatira sa building na ito."

The Gwapulis said that his main concern now is his mother who still lives in the building. "Gusto ko silang tulungan (tenants) pero hindi ko alam kung ano ang tulong na magagawa ko para sa kanila. Ang daming magagandang memories ng family namin na nangyari sa building na iyan."

Perez said that former Miss Universe Catriona Gray has visited the area in the past for her Young Focus project in Tondo, a program that helps poor children.

In previous interviews, the pageant king revealed that having his own house remains his top priority.

"Pangarap ko talaga na magkaroon ng sariling bahay lalo na ngayon na may demolition order na mula sa Manila City Hall sa building na tinitirahan namin," he said.

Perez is the first Filipino to be crowned Mister International. He is also active in modelling and has appeared in several movies.

Currently, Perez is a Patrol Officer assigned at Terminal 3 Police Station of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Paranaque City.

Asked how difficult his routine as a police officer during the pandemic, Perez said: "Mahirap dahil wala kaming alam kung ang mga nakakahalubilo namin ay carrier ng virus. Mahirap din iyong madalas na pagsusuot ng face mask at face shield, Minsan naka-PPE rin kami habang nasa duty. Ang init at uncomfortable ang ganung ayos pero kailangan na masanay kami dahil mukhang matatagalan pa ang vaccine para sa COVID-19. Lagi naman akong may dalang disinfectant, sa bahay man o opisina."

Perez said that he is grateful for being a police officer. "Mahirap na iwanan ang pagpu-pulis dahil dito ako nakilala bilang Gwapulis. Siguro minsan, lalabas pa rin ako sa mga modelling or movies pag may offer or kung hindi naman ako busy pero hindi ko siguro iiwan ang pagiging pulis."
