The health chief believes the recent imposition of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) helped in lowering the cases.

"The total number of cases in NCR is 35,040 last three or four weeks from August 10 to 30," Duque said in a meeting with President Duterte on Monday night.

"The recent one to two weeks August 24 to September 6, we'll see a big decrease with 24,517...a decrease of 10,523," he added.

"That's why I'm thankful for your MECQ (declaration), if not for that we won't achieve this big percentage in the decrease in the number of cases in NCR," Duque said.

The Department of Health on Monday reported that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 238,727 with 1,383 new cases.

Data from the DOH revealed that of the 238,727 cases, 49,931 are active cases.

The health department also reported 230 new recoveries  bringing the total number of COVID-19 survivors to 184,906.

While the total number of fatalities is at 3,890 with 15 new deaths.
