Solon cites P2.5-B allocation for 4 DoH hospitals in Cebu
Cebu Rep. Eduardo “Eddie” Gullas on Sunday welcomed the national government’s allocation of P2.5 billion for the operations of four Department of Health (DoH) hospitals in his province, and another P196 million for the modernization of their health facilities under the proposed P4.5-trillion national budget for 2021.

The House leader noted that the aggregate operating budget of the four DoH hospitals for next year has been increased by "P400 million or 19 percent, higher than the P2.1 billion that they are getting this year.”
Of the P2.5-billion funding proposed in the 2021 national budget, the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City got the biggest chunk with P1.9 billion, followed by Cebu South Medical Center, formerly the Talisay District Hospital, P380 million; Eversley Childs Sanitarium in Mandaue City, P128 million; and St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital in Cebu City, P90 million.
"On top of their operating budgets, the four national government hospitals in Cebu are also receiving a total of P196 million from the DoH’s Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP),” Gullas, chairperson of the House Committee on Land Use, said in a statement.
He explained that under HFEP, the additional funding allocations will be used “for the construction, upgrading, or expansion of government healthcare facilities and purchase of hospital equipment for such facilities, including the upgrading of facilities for COVID-19 response and equipping and construction of on-going projects.”
The HFEP allocation of the four state hospitals is: Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, P80 million; Cebu South Medical Center, P49 million; Eversley Childs Sanitarium, P48 million; and St. Anthony Mother and Child Hospital, P19 million.
"Under the HFEP, the Cebu provincial government hospitals in Carcar City, Danao City, Bogo City, and in the municipality of Balamban are also receiving a subsidy of P4 million each, or a combined P16 million, to improve their facilities,” Gullas said.
He said some P3.5 million will be given to the rural health unit (RHU) in the municipality of Argao as its funding share from the HFEP.
