University of Santo Tomas has officially accepted the resignation of men’s basketball coach Aldin Ayo following the Sorsogon training bubble controversy that has put the school in the spotlight.

The university, through the Office of Secretary-General, announced this in a statement on its social media accounts Saturday morning, a few days after Ayo reportedly tendered his resignation.

The university also accepted the resignation of Ayo’s coaching staff in Mcjour Luib and Jinino Manansala.

“The Thomasian community conveys its gratitude to them for their service to the University,” the statement read.

“Rest assured that the University will remain committed to the welfare of the student athletes and that the process of rebuilding athletic programs, particularly that of the men’s basketball team, through compassion and competence, will commence.”

UST has been the center controversy over the past weeks after allegedly violating government health protocols when its men’s basketball team held a training camp in Sorsogon.
