Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto kicked off the city’s blood-letting drive on Friday by donating his own blood at the Plaza Bonifacio Hall.

Because of the pandemic, Sotto lamented that few people have donated blood, affecting the precious supply of blood in blood banks.
“Napakasakit mawalan ng mahal sa buhay dahil sa kakulangan ng dugo sa blood bank (It is very painful to lose a love one due to lack of blood supply in the blood bank),” he said on Facebook.
Photos shared by Sotto on his social media accounts shows him lying in bed holding a bag of blood he donated.
The mayor said the city government regularly conducts blood-letting activities but a lot of people are now afraid to donate.
“Because of this, we are stepping up our blood-letting drives,” Sotto said.
Initiated by employees of the Pasig City government, the blood-letting drive will run every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon starting September 4.
During the blood-letting activity, Sotto was joined by City Administrator Jeron Manzanero, City Health Officer Dr. Joseph Panaligan, and Pasig City General Hospital Director Dr. Paulo Roman Castro, Jr.
“Kung malusog po tayo at kaya natin, mag-donate po tayo! (If you are healthy, please donate blood),” the mayor said.
