The Department of Transportation and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will open three additional median bus stops for the EDSA Busway System Saturday.
According to the DOTr, the bus stops to be opened are North Ave., Quezon Ave., and Nepa Q-Mart in Quezon City to cater more passengers as general community quarantine remains in place over the National Capital Region.
"Sa pagbubukas ng tatlong median bus stop, magiging mas madali, maayos at ligtas ang pagbaba at pagsakay sa mga bus para sa mga pasahero sa mga nasabing lugar," Transportation Assistant Secretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor said in a statement.
(With the opening of the tree median bus stops, it will be easier, smoother and safer for passengers to get off and board buses in the said areas)
The DOTr said that there will be a total of 29 bus stops on the EDSA Busway, 15 of which have been completed, while the remaining stops will be gradually opened after completion of necessary infrastructure and equipment to ensure that it will be safe for passengers.
The Department recently deployed four buses with doors located on the left side for the busway. More left-door buses are expected to be dispatched this month, the DOTr said.
The interim operations of the EDSA Busway rolled out on July 1 to help to ferry more commuters on the busiest thoroughfare in the metropolis.
The program was also implemented to reduce travel time from Monumento in Caloocan City to PITX in Paranaque City from the usual two to three hours to just 45 minutes to an hour.
To further ensure the welfare of passengers, health and safety protocols are being strictly implemented such as temperature checking, social distancing inside the vehicles, and the mandatory wearing of face mask.
The DOTr reminded motorists that only buses and emergency vehicles can pass through the EDSA Busway and warned bus drivers not to be reckless or they will be fined.
